Medusa Reimagined - Open for Submissions

Lycan Valley is looking for a modern day reimagining of the Medusa story with strong characters and perspective.

However, we don’t want just any Medusa story. We want to see a strong bipoc woman* deeply rooted in culture. And, regardless of how she gets there, Medusa should be victorious and win in the end.

We prefer own voices for this project, however, we will read and consider all submissions except those written by AI or incorporate the use of AI in their submissions.

We had initially intended on creating an anthology, for which we commissioned cover art, and have decided this would be best as a standalone novella or possibly a collection of three related novellas in one book.

Novella length (between 17,000 and 30,000 words) is preferred, but will consider both novellas and full-length novels for this project.

Please use Shunn Manuscript formatting, .rtf or .pages file. TITLE/LAST NAME/PAGE in the top corner.

Please include a brief synopsis/summary plus character descriptions (a couple sentences each), preferably in the cover letter section of submission portal at Duotrope. Must include the characters culture and (if applicable) how it relates to the author (own voices).

In the submission title section, please include The Book Title - Word Count - YA/Adult

No multiple submissions or simultaneous submissions please. Submissions will be open for this project through December 1**.

Short-listed submissions will be held until a final decision is made at the end of December. Please do not withdraw or submit elsewhere until notifications are sent out.

*If you’re not sure what we mean by ‘bipoc’ or ‘woman’, this might not be the right press for your submission.

**We may extend this deadline if necessary. It is unlikely we will close it early, but if such circumstances arise, we will send out notifications.

The Pulp Horror Book of Phobias, Vol 2 - SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN!

Public submissions for Volume 2 of the Pulp Horror Book of Phobias are now open. Details will be updated after the invite-only submission period. Full details and submission instructions can be found at Submittable here.

As the graphic above suggests, the theme for this volume is domestic phobias - anything you might find, or come into contact with, inside or around a house or home. This very broad theme covers many common phobias such as arachnophobia, claustrophobia and agoraphobia, but for your story to be accepted it must bring something new! We suggest taking a look at the stories in Volume 1 for a general idea on theme and style.

Send us your best and good luck!
