New Release: MAEVE by Josh Dygert

First, we met Stella...

Stella knew the names of the stars before she knew her alphabet. Although Stella’s mother disappeared when she was too small to remember, she grows up happy beneath bright Indiana stars in the small town of Torrance with her father, her dog, and her best friend.

When a meteor lands in her father’s cornfields, Stella and her father run after the fallen star. Stella watches as her father touches the star. The moment he does, he disappears in a flash of golden starlight. Stella never sees her father again.

From that moment on, Stella is terrified of the stars she always loved. She leaves Torrance, her dog, and her best friend only to discover that the truth she needs is still in Torrance. As a total eclipse approaches, Stella must find the courage to face her stars.

But before Stella, there was Maeve...

There is a ghost town in the forest behind Maeve's house. In 1881, the entire population of the town of Morton, Michigan vanished beneath a meteor shower.

One hundred years later, it is Maeve's mother who vanishes under a sky of falling stars. And Maeve becomes convinced that Morton holds the key to the mystery.

But the road to Morton is long and dangerous, and it's many years before Maeve and her two best friends are old enough to finally make the journey. As high school graduation approaches, they set off into the frozen wilderness in search of answers.

What they find is a town that is far from empty. And as the meteors begin to fall once more over Morton, it's Maeve's turn to face the falling stars.

Medusa Reimagined - Open for Submissions

Lycan Valley is looking for a modern day reimagining of the Medusa story with strong characters and perspective.

However, we don’t want just any Medusa story. We want to see a strong bipoc woman* deeply rooted in culture. And, regardless of how she gets there, Medusa should be victorious and win in the end.

We prefer own voices for this project, however, we will read and consider all submissions except those written by AI or incorporate the use of AI in their submissions.

We had initially intended on creating an anthology, for which we commissioned cover art, and have decided this would be best as a standalone novella or possibly a collection of three related novellas in one book.

Novella length (between 17,000 and 30,000 words) is preferred, but will consider both novellas and full-length novels for this project.

Please use Shunn Manuscript formatting, .rtf or .pages file. TITLE/LAST NAME/PAGE in the top corner.

Please include a brief synopsis/summary plus character descriptions (a couple sentences each), preferably in the cover letter section of submission portal at Duotrope. Must include the characters culture and (if applicable) how it relates to the author (own voices).

In the submission title section, please include The Book Title - Word Count - YA/Adult

No multiple submissions or simultaneous submissions please. Submissions will be open for this project through December 1**.

Short-listed submissions will be held until a final decision is made at the end of December. Please do not withdraw or submit elsewhere until notifications are sent out.

*If you’re not sure what we mean by ‘bipoc’ or ‘woman’, this might not be the right press for your submission.

**We may extend this deadline if necessary. It is unlikely we will close it early, but if such circumstances arise, we will send out notifications.

Celebrate Independence, Fight for Freedom and Equality!

Hey all you Beasties and Ghouls, Darkling Here!

It’s the 4th of July (as if you didn’t know) and I’m dropping by with an extra special announcement. Sure, Lycan Valley’s having a sale, but not just any sale!

All ebooks, audiobooks and ebook/audiobook bundles are 50% off and all paperbacks and pre-order packages are 25% off on our website this weekend.*

Wait, I didn’t tell you the best part yet! Lycan Valley is donating all profits from sales on their website from midnight July 4 through 11:59 pm July 6 to La Resistencia (@laresistencianw) to help aid in their efforts to support and fight for immigrant rights and the closure of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, a for-profit ICE facility known for overcrowding, mistreatment, neglect and illegal practices.

We also want to give a shout out to Montana Book Company (@mtbookco) who inspired us to create this sale and if you’re local to them, stop by because they’re donating July 4 profits to a family affected by ICE.

And ya’ll know what goes great with books! Tea! Giving a quick shout out to Moody Teas (@moody.teas) in Chicago because who doesn’t love organic tea from a company willing to fight against bigots, racists, terfs, billionaires…

Living, Dead, Undead or somewhere in between, human or otherwise, no one is illegal in the Machleif Cemetery! Celebrate independence and fight for freedom and equality!

See you around the valley!

*** Only purchases made on our website lycanvalley.com qualify. Donated profits do not take money from the authors. Purchases must be made between Midnight July 4 and 11:59 PM PST July 6. There is no sponsorship or endorsement from La Resistencia, Montana Book Company or Moody Teas.
